【前言】
Some time in the future a foreigner may ask you about Taiwan. This book and others which we hope will follow will give you information about Taiwan and other subjects in English. First, each unit gives basic information about Taiwan in the text. Then there will be a dialogue about Taiwan using many of the same ideas as in the text. Finally there will be a short section telling you a little of life in the West.

Both the text and the dialogue will be in fairly simple English. It will show you how to talk about Taiwan without having to use many complicated, difficult expressions. Of course, sometimes you will need new vocabulary and as the series of books continues the English will slowly become a little more complex. That will not matter because you will have learnt more English as you go. The important point is that the level of English used will be simple compared to the amount of English you know. Therefore you will begin to understand how to use a simple (to you) form of English to talk about, not just Taiwan, but anything!

以後你可能會遇到外國人跟你問起台灣。本書和將來有望陸續出版的相關系列就會以英語介紹有關台灣和其他主題的資訊。每一單元的開頭都會有一篇文章簡單介紹台灣。接著會有一篇談論台灣的對話，內容也與之前的文章相關。最後會有一篇短文跟你講講西方的生活。

文章和對話的英語都非常簡單。你會發現，你不需要太多複雜困難的英語也可以談論台灣。當然，有時候你還是需要新的字彙，所以本系列後面的書籍會漸漸加深英語的難度。但是你不用感到害怕，因為你的英語程度會越來越好。

重點就是，本書所使用的英語會比你學過的英語還要簡單。所以，現在你就會開始學會怎麼用簡單的英語談論台灣，而且不只是台灣，而是所有的事物！

【作者簡介】
Paul O'Hagan
曾於西班牙、沙烏地阿拉伯和科威特等國家擔任英語教職。環遊世界數年，於1993年來到台灣後，居住長達六年，期間分別在台北、桃園和新竹等地教授英文。於1999年與妻子和女兒移居英國，目前則定居於愛爾蘭的首都都柏林。目前多從事寫作，出版過許多英語學習書。
